Respiragene™ Score

The Respiragene™ risk score distinguishes between smokers and ex-smokers at "Moderate Risk" (20 to 30 times more likely to develop lung cancer than a non-smoker; about one in 10 smokers at moderate risk will develop lung cancer), "High Risk" (3 times more likely than an average smoker to develop lung cancer), and "Very High Risk" (10 times more likely to develop lung cancer than an average smoker).  Because moderate risk smokers already have lung cancer risk 20 to 30 times higher than non-smokers, a "Moderate Risk" score is not a 'license to smoke'!

The Respiragene™ test is not designed to diagnose lung cancer. It does not indicate whether a person has already developed the disease.  Nor is the test designed to report a specific percentage likelihood of developing lung cancer.  The Respiragene™ Test identifies your individual risk, compared to other people with the same general lifestyle levels of risk.  It provides personalized data about risk before obvious symptoms of lung cancer emerge and while there is still time to prevent cancer occurring.

Research studies which have contributed to the technology underlying the Respiragene™ test found that close to 80% of the lung cancers found in a group of 923 smokers and ex-smokers occurred in a subgroup of the 30% of all patients with the highest risk scores.  No other genetic-based susceptibility test is capable of differentiating between individuals at risk of lung cancer risk in a similar, clinically useful way.
