MDL operates a state of the art CLIA-compliant laboratory testing facility and offers a growing range of proprietary genetic-based tests for cardiovascular diagnostic and pharmacogenomic applications. Dr. Robert P. Young, Synergenz Chief Scientific Officer

Dr. Robert Young is a practicing clinician with extensive hospital experience in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and New Zealand. He has treated thousands of patients with Lung Cancer and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) developed as a result of their smoking habits. In addition, he is highly trained in molecular genetics and has undertaken numerous genetic epidemiological studies over the last sixteen years, several of which have contributed to the core discoveries underpinning the Respiragene™ test.

After earning a medical degree at New Zealand's Otago University, Dr. Young completed his Ph.D. at the University of Oxford (UK) for his research on the genetics of asthma, and subsequently trained in internal medicine in London and Hong Kong. He has published four book chapters, two theses and sixty-five peer-reviewed publications or abstracts, and is a Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Physicians, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Physicians (UK). Dr Young is a founding director of Synergenz and leads of a team of scientists and clinicians based at the University of Auckland (New Zealand) conducting ongoing research into genetic susceptibility to pulmonary disease.
